All of the units come together on the Fourth of July to participate in Canfield’s parade and festivities, with the troops selling hot dogs and beverages. In July the troops joined forces again to share a camp out to Greenbelt, Maryland where we camped, then visited the Washington DC monuments. It was a 10 mile hike that allowed the scouts to see the Capital, Supreme Court, Washington Monument, Jefferson Memorial, FDR Memorial, Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall, Korean, WWI, WWII memorials and finally the Boy Scouts Memorial. Additional stops to the Arlington National Cemetery, NRA Museum, National Zoo and Flight 93 Memorial rounded out the 4 day trip.
In September and October the boys are planning hikes and a camp that entails a Cooking Challenge Camp. The cooking challenge is similar to shows on TV that allow the scouts to showcase a meal with required ingredients on a short time schedule. The girls are working on a 15 mile bike trip along the Greenway Trail in Ashtabula County.
In November, the troops plan to conduct their annual Junior Leader Trainings (JLT) at Camp Akela in Canfield, Ohio, where the Scouts work on communication, leadership and working together. And beginning preparations for the annual Klondike Derby we attend later in the winter.
December brings about our annual indestructibly wrapped gift exchange, always a challenge to see who can make the most difficult gift to unwrap. Along with other ways we give back to our community through service.
The Cub Scouts attended a Mahoning Valley Scrappers game in July and Pioneer Waterland Park in Chardon in August. We also sent a group to resident camp at Custaloga Town Scout Reservation the first week of August.
With the start of school we will have our Meet the Pack night at the church on Tuesday, September 17. We are looking for kindergarten through fifth graders who want to have fun, learn and get outdoors to join us. Come out at 6:15 and see what we do.
October brings our Pack 25 Family Camp which will have a Harry Potter theme.
This also marks the start of popcorn season, so you may be approached by a Scout to buy popcorn and other treats as we fundraise to support our pack and troops.
